A Staff Sergeant is an enlisted and non-commissioned officer army rank that is senior to a Sergeant and junior to a Sergeant First Class. It is the equivalent of a navy Staff Flight Sergeant. It is commonly abbreviated as "Ssg", "Ssgt", "SSGT" or "SSG".
