A Lieutenant Commander is a naval rank equivalent to Major in seniority. A Lieutenant Commander is typically senior to a Lieutenant and junior to a Commander. Lieutenant Commanders are addressed by rank and name, thereafter by subordinates as "Sir" or "Ma'am". The rank is usually abbreviated to "LtCmdr." or "LTCMDR".
