The Combine Commander (CCom) was the first gameplay software used by the Star Wars Combine and, from 1999 to 2000, every player was required to download the application in order to participate in the simulation. The short-lived program was a standalone application written in JAVA. In April 2000, the Combine Commander was replaced by ICIS, which was subsequently replaced by the Darkness interface in December 2003.

When the Star Wars Combine first began, the Combine Commander was the software required to play the simulation. The program was coded by Sim Master Fizzban in JAVA and was primarily designed for performing administrative tasks. Version 1.33 of the Combine Commander allowed the player to manage Non-Player Characters (NPC), as well as upgrades the internal mailing lists.

Note the Combine Commander was one of two programs used by the early Star Wars Combine simulation. The second program, HoloCom, was the client where the actual game-play took place. The HoloCom client allowed the player to travel through space, to move around on the surface of planets, to visit buildings and to role-play with other Combine players. The HoloCom also featured an Auto-Refresh function, Hidden Structures, Secret Rooms, Personal Messages and different travel speeds.
